Xidian-Polytech Cooperation Program in Electronics and Information Engineering
“Electronics and Information Engineering” of Xidian University is a first class, nationally revered undergraduate program. Approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China on January 26, 2014, the Undergraduate Electronics and Information Engineering Education Program between Xidian University and the Polytechnic Institute of the University of Nantes (Université de Nantes) was a first full-time engineering-related Sino-France Education Cooperation Program in the Shaanxi Province, and it has been incorporated into the national enrollment plan of general institutes of higher education.

The domestic School of Electronic Engineering is a high-level electronic information talent cultivation base; while the international partner, Polytech Group, is an alliance of 15 polytechnic institutes of science and engineers in France. Polytech Group features both a strong academic background consisting of national colleges, as well as a flexible characteristic brought on by an engineering education. The French engineer education system lays heavy emphasis on an in-field, practical education, and currently serves as a cradle of elites in various fields in French education system.

Reflecting on the current international demand for high-quality talent and the abundance of teaching and scientific research resources in China and France, specifically in electronic information engineering, the program draws lessons from the cultivation model of French engineers, and aims to further cultivate students to master the professional theories, principles and technologies required for electronic information system design, software and hardware design. It also strives to strengthen the cultivation of students’ comprehensive design ability and their innovative practical ability, and cultivate innovative, applied and diverse talents with international vision and competitiveness within the information industry.

French professors will teach for about one-third of the class hours for the undergraduate courses during the study. They will communicate and teach in French, both oral and learning upon graduation, students will receive an undergraduate diploma and degree certificate in Electronics and Information Engineering issued by Xidian University. At the end of the third academic year, students who qualify the French admission criteria can choose to study in 15 colleges within the Polytech Group for an engineering degree. After meeting the graduation requirements in France, they will be receiving with an engineer diploma issued by the Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur (CTI) — a Master’s Degree recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

The tuition is 52,000rmb per student per academic year, approved by the Shaanxi Bureau of Commodity Pricing, excluding expenses for accommodation and books. The tuition for studying in France shall be in accordance with the regulations of Polytech Group. (At present, students are exempted from paying tuition if studying in Polytechnic Group). In addition, students are required to pay the registration fee (about 1,000 euro/year), insurance premiums as well as accommodation expenses to Polytech Group each year.

Currently, the rate of study abroad is about 70%, including but not limited to institutions such as the Université Paris-Sud, Polytechnic Institute of Sorbonne University, and Polytechnic Institute of Université Nice Sophia Antipolis. Five percent of students are admitted to world-renowned universities, such as New York University (USA), the University of Nottingham (UK), The University of Sydney (AUS), and Bishop’s University (CAN). Five percent of students are admitted to domestic first-class research institutes for a master’s degree, such as Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xiamen University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Xidian University, etc.
