Donation and Prize-awarding Ceremony of “Senior Scholarship of 2-781 Class” in the School of Electronic Engineering
On October 19, the Donation and Prize-awarding Ceremony of “Senior Scholarship of 2-781 Class” of the School of Electronic Engineering was held in A402 Conference Hall in the library at South Campus. Liu Jianfeng, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Electronic Engineering presided over the donation ceremony. Gao Xinbo, the Vice President of Xidian University, Liao Guisheng, the Dean of the School of Electronic Engineering and Yang Junwei, the office director of the School of Electronic Engineering have attended the meeting and 27 alumni from 2-781 Class, all counselors of the School of Electronic Engineering and over 200 student representatives have participated in the donation ceremony.

The Vice President Gao Xinbo, firstly on behalf of Xidian University, showed a warm welcome to the 27 alumni of 2-781 Class who went back to their alma mater 41 years later. Then he made a brief introduce about this university. Xidian University has made great improvement and steady development in all aspects. In 2017, it has been selected as “National Innovative and Entrepreneurial Demonstration Base”, which is the only university in electronic information field and in the northwest region. 6 majors in postgraduate education ranked first in China, and another 6 majors have passed the professional certification in engineering education. He said that all of these achievements were inseparable from the concern and support of our alumni. The “Senior Scholarship of 2-781 Class” showed the love of alumni for their alma mater, and also passed on Xidian Spirit. Therefore, he expressed sincere respect and thanks for those alumni who supported the growth and development of Xidian University. Meanwhile, he pointed out that Xidian University was really proud of their achievements. The excellent achievements and experience of these alumni and their patriotism, their spirit of dedication and their courage in innovation and entrepreneurship not only reflected Xidian characteristics, but also were the most vivid practice cases of young students. He hoped that everyone could hold the heart of gratitude to study, enrich their own skills and make great contributions guided by the alumni’s spirit.

Liao Guisheng, the Dean of the School of Electric Engineering expressed his best regards to the senior schoolmates who gathered together in their alma mater again and thanked for their donation. He made a detailed introduction about the development history, faculties, characteristic and preponderant discipline and the achievements made in teaching and researching in the School of Electronic Engineering to the alumni. He said, although over 40 years have passed, the graduates still remembered their start points, which responded to the calling that “Remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind”. In the end, he hoped that the graduates could come back more often to relive their beautiful college life and cherish their glorious youth, and then start a new journey with their original aspiration unchanged.

The graduates of 2-781 Class decided to invest to establish “Senior Scholarship of 2-781 Class” when they came back in 2018 in order to thank their alma mater and help the students to develop as talents. This year’s donation has continuously passed on this warm. The second term of this scholarship, 200,000 Yuan, was provided by Li Jianping, who was a graduate from 2-781. In his speech, he said that most of his classmates in 2-781 have been devoted themselves in their own career and made contributions to the country. He said that the success of everyone was related to the time they live in, the position of radar engineering discipline of Xidian University in China and their own life experience. Outstanding alumni in 2-781 Class included Yang Guangping, the chief expert of the 14th research institute of CETC and chief engineer of many national key projects, Zhang Yaoxue, the President of Central South University and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Yu Yanqiu, the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of CEC Panda Group. Li said the experience for success was to be committed to one thing in a steadfast way. The establishment of this scholarship also wanted to pass on the down-to-earth spirit of Xidian University’s graduates. The Vice President Gao Xinbo received his donation and awarded the donation certification to Li Jianping.

After the assessment and examination by the School, Diao Weihao and other 15 excellent undergraduate students admitted in 2017, who ranked the top 16, were awarded the “Senior Scholarship of 2-781 Class”. Liu Huimin, who won this scholarship in 2018, as the representative of the awarded students admitted in 2016, made a speech to report the study situation in the past year: among the 17 students who won the scholarship in 2018, 15 have got the postgraduate recommendations and 2 gave up such recommendation and chose to have further study abroad. In July, 2019, Liu Huimin has donated 8000 out of his “Senior Scholarship of 2-781 Class” to award ten excellent students in Xiang Village Middle School in Pucheng County. Diao Weihao, who won the outstanding prize of “Senior Scholarship of 2-781 Class” this year, expressed his sincere appreciation to the concern and support from the alumni of 2-781 Class. He said, winning the scholarship was not the final goal, but the motivation for progress for his way pursuing knowledge. He would make more efforts in the future and strive for higher achievements.
