Delegation Led by Liao Guisheng, the Dean of the School of Electronic Engineering Visited the University of Wollongong, Australia
Professor Liao Guisheng, the Dean of the School of Electronic Engineering of Xidian University and Professor Ding Jinshan, the Vice Dean of the School of Electronic Engineering have visited the University of Wollongong at the invitation of Professor Xi Jiangtao, the Dean of the School of Electronics and Communications Engineering of the University of Wollongong, Australia from Nov. 11, 2019 to Nov. 15, 2019.
In this visit, Professor Liao Guisheng and the delegation have met Professor Linton, the Director of the Department of Engineering and Information Science, Professor Ritz, the Vice Director of this Department, Professor Xi Jiangtao, the Dean of the School of Electronic and Communication Engineering of the University of Wollongong and Associate Professor Raad, the Vice Dean of this School and the person responsible for the international department. The two sides have made deep discussions on talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation, and gained a series of achievements.

Firstly, Professor Ritz made a detailed introduction to the Department of Engineering and Information Science of the University of Wollongong and Professor Liao Guisheng described his purpose of this visit. Then Professor Ding Jinshan introduced Xidian University and its School of Electronic Engineering to the representatives attending this meeting. The two sides have made fruitful discussions on talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation. In order to implement the first step of the cooperation intention between Xidian University and the University of Wollongong, Professor Liao Guisheng, on behalf of the School of Electronic Engineering of Xidian University, has signed the “3+1+1” Project Agreement about joint training in undergraduate and postgraduate phrases with the University of Wollongong. Professor Liao Guisheng and the delegation have also visited Engineering Center, Electronic Information Laboratory and library of the University of Wollongong.

In order to integrate international development strategy into all aspects of our school’s work, in 2018, the School of Electronic Engineering has established the Expert Consultation Committee for International Works, which composes of famous experts at home and abroad as its members, aiming to gathering their power to drive the international works and development of our school. The School decided to invite Professor Xi Jiangtao as the chairman of this Committee. In this visit, Professor Liao Guisheng has awarded the appointment letters to Professor Xi Jiangtao as the Chairman of Expert Consultation Committee for International Work of the School of Electronic Engineering, and Associate Professor Guo Qinghua as the member. Professor Xi was glad to receive this appointment letter and said he would make a great contribution with famous overseas Chinese experts to promote the international development of Xidian University in the fields such as major courses reform, which would be taken as the start point.

It is reported that the two sides will soon launch the preparation for the establishment of an international joint laboratory. Under the strong support of this platform, both sides will implement the agreed cooperation items such as the training of postgraduate students, research cooperation and course introduce, and discuss the cooperation with the theme of “AI+Education” so as to promote the cooperation between the colleges and universities in China and Australia under the new context.
This visit to the University of Wollongong by Professor Liao Guisheng and the delegation is a response to the “International-driven Activity” of our university and an exploration to continuously push the international work of our school and expand the cooperation with the top colleges and universities in Australia. Both two sides will implement and deepen the cooperation contents based on the good communication and cooperation so as to promote the double first-class construction of our university.
