Department of Remote Sensing Science and technology

The "Remote Sensing Science and Technology" of the School of Electronic Engineering of Xidian University is an intersecting department of signal processing, optical engineering, microwave technology, and remote sensing big data. This department mainly covers research directions such as basic theory of optical / microwave remote sensing, remote sensing information acquisition technology, remote sensing data processing technology, image interpretation technology and basic principles of information processing, etc. The objective of the Department is to carry out in-depth research in areas including multi-level comprehensive remote sensing, electromagnetic spectrum full-band coverage sensing technology, ground-spectrum formation mechanism, remote sensing image processing and target information reconstruction and inversion. This department relies on national first-class disciplines such as "Electronic Science and Technology" and "Information and Communication Engineering", and has created a scientific and technological innovation team selected in the key areas of remote sensing imaging technology in Shaanxi Province. This department is characterized by electromagnetic wide-area space perception and civil remote sensing big data analysis and application (ecological protection, vegetation inversion), which is facing the needs of China's aerospace survey and civilian remote sensing construction and development.

In the Shanghai soft science ranking in 2019, the department of remote sensing technology of Xidian University is ranked 3rd in China and 7th in the world. In the latest ESI ranking of Crevion in September 2019, the "Earth Science" of Xidian University entered the top 1% of ESI for the first time, becoming the third one to enter ESI after "Engineering" and "Computer Science" Top 1% of disciplines worldwide. The department of Remote Sensing Science and Technology is facing the international academic frontier and the major national needs, and aims to lead advanced researches including basic and applied research on optical / microwave remote sensing imaging and target reconstruction inversion at home and abroad, electromagnetic space sensing, real-time remote sensing information processing, autonomous controllable and micro-systems, research and transformation of results, and talent training base, thus provides strong technical and talent support for the improvement of China's remote sensing science, the development of aerospace and aviation disciplines, the innovative development of disciplines, and the integration of military and civilians.

At present, the remote sensing science and technology team of Xidian University has been a multi-disciplinary cross-innovation scientific research team, with research directions covering radar, optics, remote sensing science, earth science, computer science, machine learning, real-time signal processing, and micro-system integration. The team has gathered a group of outstanding young scientific researchers, including 15 major scientific researchers, and more than 50 doctoral and graduate students.
