Graduate students of the School of Electronic Engineering won the Best Student Paper at the 2021 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium series

(Correspondent Chang Mingyang) Sponsored by Chongqing Research Institute, National University of Singapore, 2021 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Workshop Series on Advanced Materials and Processes for RF and THz Applications (IEEE MTT-S IMWS-AMP) is co-organized by Suzhou Institute of National University of Singapore, Chongqing University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Xidian University, etc, which was held online from November 15 to 17, 2021. Our teachers and students actively participated in this event and won excellent results in the "Best Student Paper Competition".

IEEE MTT-S IMWS-AMP conference is a prestigious annual international conference in the microwave field. It has been held in Suzhou, Chengdu, Pavia, Italy, Michigan, the USA and other places. IEEE MTT-S IMWS-AMP 2021 was selected to be held online due to the global epidemic. The conference was chaired by professor Guo Yongxin, director of the Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare Technology at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Suzhou Research Institute and co-director of the Centre for Intelligent Sensing and Artificial Intelligence at NUS Chongqing Research Institute. More than 300 experts and scholars from 16 countries and regions including China, Singapore, Canada and the United Kingdom attended the conference. Nearly 200 international high-level papers were selected to be read at the conference.

Conference invited academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences professor Cui Tiejun of Southeast University; professor Wu Ke, members of the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering at the University of Montreal; professor Hao Yang from the Royal Academy of Engineering at the Queen Mary University of London for a theme report. This meeting provides an exchange and cooperation platform for scholars in the field of microwave. Researchers from home and abroad exchanged in-depth discussions on the latest research in RF and THz advanced materials and processes, including advanced wireless devices based on metamaterials and metasurface, microwave, millimeter wave and THz systems and applications, and substrate integrated circuits and systems.

In order to encourage college students to keep learning and achieve more scientific research achievements, the conference also held the "Best student paper competition". After strict screening and evaluation by experts of the technical committee of the conference, 23 student papers were confirmed as candidates for the competition. The authors of these 23 papers showed their results in the defense of the competition and answered the relevant questions of the judges. Finally, six papers won the "Best Student Paper Award" based on the total score of the paper quality and the presentation. The essay "High Power and Wide Input Power Range Recasurface with GaN Diode," by Chang Mingyang and Xue Hao, doctoral students of professor Li Long, was the best after a series of rounds of competition.

The conference, to a certain extent, promoted the development of RF and THz advanced materials and technology research, accelerated the mutual learning of relevant experts and scholars, and also provided a platform for college students to learn knowledge and show themselves. In a harmonious atmosphere, the conference ended successfully and was unanimously thanked and praised by the participants. Our teachers and students also showed their ability and academic level in this conference. On the way of scientific research in the future, we wish our teachers and students to continue to forge ahead, be brave in innovation and create new achievements!
